Be able to search a date

For all iOS users: There's a hidden feature in 1SE that allows you to smoothly go back to any date without scrolling for hours.
While in the calendar screen, swipe right to open the dates drawer. From there, you can see the months in each year. Tap on any moth from any year to jump to the first day of the month you selected.

Vinh Dinh: is this for Android too?
Vinh Dinh
Looking into this across both platforms but don't have any release dates yet. Thanks for your patience and the continued feedback Gemma S!

This thread has become a bit of an overloaded place with multiple ideas and requests coming together. Those that care about this feature, what if we'd add a button that would pop up a calendar and allow you to choose a date to jump to? Does that solve your need? If y'all could talk more about what "be able to search for a date" means to you and how it's useful to what you're trying to accomplish, that would help a lot!

Vinh Dinh: the way that it would help me is I'm very behind in doing a yearly video and sometimes the clips I have for certain days don't have the correct dates on them anymore. For example a video taken on the 24th December has been edited and has a new date of 23rd June. So to find the clip for that day I have to scroll looking for it. If I could search a date or folder (as I save all the clips I want to use in a specific folder) it would make it easier to find. The old app had this feature of searching for a folder and it was a big blow when this was taken away when I upgraded to pro. Hope that makes sense
Vinh Dinh
Gemma S: You mean you would like to scroll to a date while you're in the media picker? Also could you talk a bit more how a video taken on the 24th December suddenly gets a new date? Is that some bug? I'm not entirely sure what you mean with "The old app had this feature of searching for a folder and it was a big blow when this was taken away", could you let me know when that was roughly? Switching to pro should never remove any features that are available in the free version so this is maybe I'm misunderstanding here.
Vinh Dinh
Everyone: To be clear, the way I'm understanding this feature request is that y'all are looking for a way to quickly navigate within the calendar,
not
within the media picker. Please let me know and chime in with your use cases, thanks!G

Vinh Dinh: Hi Vinh. When I edit a video on my phone, for example cutting it, adding music, changing the filter. I get a new date of when it was edited not when it was taken.
I don't mind upgrading. It was before the new app was launched. I've been a user of 1SE for years and to be honest, I've been pestering for this ever since the new app was launched. It was a free feature on the old app so despite being a pro user now for years, the fact this was taken away was mind boggling lol.
I could save all my second clips in a folder and search for them that way rather than having to scroll to find the date to fit into the correct day, which is what needs to be done now. It may seem like such a small thing to you guys but it really puts me off sitting down and trying to sort out a video which in turn, i yet further behind and the cycle continues. I'm basically paying a monthly fee for something I'm not using because it's just too difficult now.

Gemma S: Would you be able to hop on a quick call? Would love to chat with you more about this. If you're up for it, please drop me a quick email and we take it from there, thanks! Here's my email: vinh@1se.co

A button to jump to my first snippet that breaks my longest chain (100+ snippets in all my projects) would also be a nice addition. That would help me even MORE than a pop-up calendar to easily continue with my catch-up of my other 2 running child projects forgotten last year. :(
Silvia Burgos Shall I open a request for this separately or that would make it even less likely to have that feature? :) Thank you for considering this!
Silvia Burgos
Attila: Are you using the app on an iOS device?
Attila
Silvia Burgos: no, I'm on Android

Silvia Burgos: Whoa! How long as this been a feature? I had no idea about this!
Kara
Silvia Burgos: what about android?
Silvia Burgos
Kara: Unfortunately this feature is not available on Android yet.
Silvia Burgos
Lael Uberuaga-Rodgers: All along 😅 but it's super hidden.

Silvia Burgos: will it ever be available for Android? I've been paying for the full version every month since it was updated and there is still nothing to help us. It's a lot of money I've paid now :(
Silvia Burgos
Gemma S: This feature is not in the roadmap for Android yet. 😔
Claudius
Silvia Burgos: I only work with Freestyle-Projects so that’s where I would love to have this feature
Silvia Burgos
Claudius: Since Freestyle projects allow you to sort your snippets in a non-chronological order, how would you envision this feature would work? Can you mention a use case?
Claudius
Silvia Burgos: I know a lot of people who use the Freestyle-Mode as their normal diary and don´t use the other mode because of several reasons. And though we actually do use the Freestyle mode in a chronological oder and create a project for every year.
For example you could create an option to sort a Freestyle Project chronological or customized. And for the people who sort it chronological you could implement the same time jump feature as in the other mode.
Would be so incredible useful!
Silvia Burgos
Claudius: Thanks for the information!
Can you name some of the reasons why you prefer to use a Freestyle project chronologically instead of a Journal project?
Claudius
Silvia Burgos: Hey Silvia, yes of course :)
I prefer it because I´m not filming a snippet every day. I like to use my journal in a way like memories work for me.
Sometimes I have a week where I mostly work and I don´t need many snippets of that and then there is a week where a lot is happening and maybe I want to do 5 snippets on some days of that week.
So in a Freestyle project that´s all one beautiful feed of all the things I want to remember.
But in a Journal project there would be many empty days and I´m limited in the amount of snippets per day and I thinks it also looks different when I upload several snippets on one day in a Journal project.
I do it like that for more than 6 years and have a freestyle project for every year. I even transferred my old journal project in freestyle projects because it´s nicer to look at it like that.
So I think it´s a better experience for everybody who is not using the app in a classic way of one or two snippets every day.
And most people I know don´t use it in that classic way.
But if the Freestyle projects would be optimized for this purpose the app would become more attractive for a lot of people who want a whole memory of there year but don´t want the pressure of making snippets every day but instead when they create meaningful memories :)
Would be lovely if there is a chance that you discuss this with the team :)

Silvia Burgos: hi it's been another year since this post, I'm just wondering if android pro subscribers will ever be taken seriously and receive the same features? Doesn't seem right that we pay £40 for pro but have extremely different access to features
Leah Dykema
That would be an amazing feature!
Vinh
Leah Dykema, Leila Mills: Could you let me know what you were trying to accomplish? Were you trying to navigate (far) back in time to add a missing snippets?
Leah Dykema
Vinh: Yes, but also, it would be perhaps nice to be able to start and finish watching snippets from this date to this date, for example, say I wanted to watch just one week of snippets. Or two months, not the entire video.
Vinh
Leah Dykema: Ah right, you mean the "Choose Dates" option in the mash/preview screen then and not the calendar timeline view. Thanks for the clarification! Same for your Leila Mills?
Leah Dykema
Vinh: 😱 I never noticed that button 🤦♀️Thx so much! And you’re welcome, happy to help. Still can’t believe I’ve never seen that, guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, I’m visually impaired 🤣
Vinh
Leah Dykema: Sorry about that! You're def. not the only one that missed that button. We'll be looking at ways to make the time/date selection easier to access. Thanks for your feedback!
Leah Dykema
Vinh: You’re welcome, and thank you for showing me that button!

Vinh: will you be looking at it for Android? There is still no way for us to find old snippets. I've paid my subscription since the update. It's really unfair
Vinh Dinh
Gemma S: I totally understand. Searching for dates is currently not on the near term roadmap for neither platform unfortunately. We hope to find a solution that works for both platforms once we get there.
If you don't mind, could you talk a little bit more about the usecase you're having? When and what was the last occasion you wanted to search for an old date? I'd also love to know what your workaround was. And where would you put the level of annoyance on a scale of 0 (not at all) - 9 (extremely so)? THANKS!

Vinh Dinh: Hi Vinh!
I'm working on two separate videos at the moment for my two daughters of their early years. On the old app before the big update, Dates that had no snippet I had extra snippets saved in a folder to use so there would be no gaps (if that makes sense) In the old app, i could just search my 1se folder i created in my phone gallery and use them for there. Also, since getting a new phone, dates have changed on edited videos/images which makes it harder to get right as I have to scroll to find them. (again if that makes sense) On IOS, there is apparently a shortcut that is a date drawer? I may be confusing this with something else entirely though as I don't use an iPhone haha. It's not a MAJOR annoyance as at the moment to work around I will check on my phone gallery what the date is saved to the clip and then go scrolling on 1SE. It's just a nightmare when it's a really old one and then I accidently cut it wrong and have to go scrolling for days to find it again. Apart from this minor bug bear, the app is pretty much perfect! I've been a user since practically the beginning :)

Is there any news at all yet? There are so many android users asking for this and I've paid for pro since the beginning. It just feels like dead money :(
Vinh Dinh
Hi Gemma S, we're looking for ways to improve navigation, but I don't think the hidden timeline on iOS is the solution that would help most people so we don't intend to port it over. I'd love to show you some of the ideas we have in mind and get your input if you have some time to spare: https://calendly.com/d/cnn-wgr-9gq/1se-product-chat

Merged in a post:
More speed in the app and a word searcher
I will want to open different day's information and I need a speed app.
A word searcher for looking for someday

I agree with this suggestion!

Please, this would be helpful.

I’m using IOS & I’d love to see that if there is no content in the calendar for a particular date, that the options shown are for +/- 7 days from that date rather than having to scroll through until I manually get to around that date. I often fill dates missing videos/photos with ones near that date or favourite quotes (that would be another awesome addition - a quote generator taken from your already great pool of quotes) to fill in that space. Cheers!
